About the Club

Millbank Rowing Club was founded in 1954 on a stretch of river just outside town. For seventy years, we've been a fixture in the local community — a place where generations of rowers have learned the water, found their crew, and kept coming back. The river hasn't changed much. Neither has the welcome.

The club is entirely volunteer-run — our coaches, committee and event organisers are all members who give their time because they love rowing and believe in the club. That spirit of mucking in is at the heart of who we are. There's always room for another pair of hands, whether you're on the water or helping ashore.

Our clubhouse sits by the river and is the social heart of the club. It's where members gather after sessions, where training begins and events are planned, and where the real friendships form. On a Sunday you'll find it full of rowers sharing stories, swapping boats and planning the week ahead.

We're around 140 members strong — juniors learning to row, seniors who've been with us for decades, and everyone who joins us on a Sunday morning for a steady pull on the water. The club prides itself on welcoming all ages and abilities. Whether you're eight or eighty, coming back after twenty years or stepping into a boat for the first time, there's a place for you here.
